Margiotta endorses Tony Gurley

I am reaching out to you in support of my friend, Tony Gurley. I have known Tony for the past 10 years and feel compelled to speak out in support of his election as Lt. Governor.  Tony has always put people above his personal ambitions and is the most “non-political” politician I have known.

I have the utmost respect for his integrity and solid work ethic. During my years as Chairman of the Wake County School Board, Tony and I rebuilt a strong relationship to benefit the students of Wake County and the community as a whole. As Chairman of the County Commissioners, Tony worked tirelessly to listen to and address the concerns from parents as it related to our school system. His dedication and commitment to serve is unyielding and he is recognized for his strong representation. As a former race car driver, Tony certainly has a competitive nature which has benefited all of us in Wake County.

We need Tony in the Lt. Governor’s position where he can provide more services for more people.

Please vote for Tony Gurley on May 8th.

Best,
Ron Margiotta

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Candidate for Lt. Governor “mad as hell” over governor’s tax increase proposal

Raleigh, NC – Lt. Governor candidate Tony Gurley blasted Governor Bev Perdue today for proposing a three quarter cent sales tax increase to support North Carolina schools. “Gov. Perdue and her cronies are at it again.  Like a broken record they are asking for ANOTHER tax hike for our schools.  To quote a famous line from the 1976 movie classic ‘Network’, ‘I’m mad as hell and…I’m not going to take it anymore!’” Gurley said.

Gurley said that at a time when North Carolina is facing the highest unemployment it has seen in decades and people are struggling to make ends meet, the last thing we need is another tax hike.  This is not the kind of leadership we need from the Executive branch of North Carolina.  ”Gov. Perdue knows state government is broken, yet she does nothing about it.” Gurley added.

“It’s time to send Governor Perdue and her Lt. Governor Walter Dalton home and elect new proven conservative reformers to the Executive Branch.  As a Wake County Commissioner for 10 years and Chairman for 3 years, I have faced numerous financial challenges leading the fastest growing large county in the United States.” Gurley added.  Gurley said that Wake County government has prioritized spending to meet its obligations while maintaining one of the lowest property tax rates in the state.

“The Lt. Governor is an executive not a legislator.” Gurley said, adding that the Lt. Governor needs to be a leader and work closely with Members of the Legislature and the Governor to find better and more efficient ways to spend taxpayer money.  “I have that experience. I have developed budgets, Chaired the Board of Commissioners and found conservative solutions to problems.”

“I don’t just talk about finding fixes for problems, I fix them!” Gurley added.  ”As the owner of my own pharmacies for almost 30 years, I know that people need the right prescription to cure them when they are sick.  There is not a magic pill we can use to solve state governments problems, but we can begin to cure those problems by sending Bev Perdue and Walter Dalton home.”

“If you are as mad as I am, I hope you will join me in this effort!” Gurley concluded.
